Sadly, most areas of Australia limit the flowering season of Wisteria. It grows well. It flowers prolifically. But the flowers drop all too quickly.
Both the the Kawachi Fuji Gardens (fuji means wisteria in Japanese) and the Ashikaga Flower Park in Japan have managed to plant varieties and hybrids that extend the flowering season to almost three months. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing a wisteria in profusion, you will enjoy this album. The website for Kawachi is very limited – http://www.city.kitakyushu.lg.jp/kensetu/file_0218.html but http://www.ashikaga.co.jp/en/wisteria.html offers some great information.
Remember that the best time to plant anything is yesterday! If you are inspired by these gardens, get your wisteria in the ground now. But remember, it needs a VERY strong trellis!
